Lotus Roots Kundalini Yoga was established in 2005 and dedicated to sharing Kundalini Yoga, the technology of self-awareness, with kindness and respect for all.
Kundalini Yoga Instructor
Katie (she/they) discovered a passion for Hatha Yoga in her teens and has continued to develop her personal practice ever since then. While attending UW-Madison, they took a mini course that combined Kundalini Yoga with African Dance, and fell in love with the rhythm of movement and breath. During pregnancy, she practiced Kundalini Yoga and meditations daily which helped prepare and empower her for childbirth. Their personal experiences with healing meditations, inspired Katie to share the bounty of Kundalini Yoga with others. She completed teacher training in 2005 with Guru Anand Kaur and was given the name Kirti Kaur by Nirinjan Kaur. They attended several conferences with Gurmukh Kaur Khalsa, Gary Kraftsow and many more renowned teachers who continue to inspire her practice and teaching. Katie has their event promotion experience to bring several well-known teachers to the Madison area to share their wealth of knowledge with other yoga thought leaders. Katie had the honor and privilege to introduce Grammy-nominated, performing artist, Snatam Kaur on stage to the Overture Center in October 2018.
Katie founded Lotus Roots Kundalini Yoga to share this technology of awareness with people of all ages and abilities. She is the creator of Yoga Sprouts, and author of Yoga Sprouts! Child & Caregiver Yoga Adventures, published in September 2013. Katie published the Kaleidoscope Journal, in 2021, to share her passion of combining yoga meditations with art therapy techniques. Katie has taught prenatal yoga, Laya yoga and meditation, and has experience working with a variety of groups. Katie brings a gentle and sincere approach to teaching that encourages each student to listen to their own breath and go at their own pace. They reminds us that it is yoga practice not yoga perfect! Since the pandemic in 2020, Katie has scaled back her in-person teaching to focus on her family, social justice, and writing. She offers yoga classes via Patreon, and has been known to offer yoga in the park or as a guest at local festivals. Sign up for their mailing list for updates on future event and offerings.
Katie lives in Madison, Wisconsin with her family. She volunteers regularly in her community and was a Girl Scout Troop Leader for many years. When she’s not doing yoga, she’s singing in the garden, writing fantasy fiction, or getting crafty.

Kundalini Yoga is the Science of Awareness, an ancient technology for maintaining balance of the body, mind, and spirit. According to this tradition, Kundalini Yoga will help strengthen the glandular system, the nervous system, and the circulatory system; expand the lung capacity and eradicate emotional blocks that manifest as tension in the muscular system.
Kundalini Yoga is accessible for everyone regardless of age or experience. Kundalini Yoga combines conscious breathing (Pranayama), guided movement, meditation, simple postures (Asana), stretching, sequence (Kriya), rhythm, and sound (Mantra) to balance body, mind, and being. Remember who you truly are, love yourself completely, and accept yourself with all your potential.
This is the goal of Kundalini Yoga, to let your True Self blossom!
